Because there are so many different types of lunch boxes available at Kmart, I haven’t reviewed them all. I picked six of them, and have focussed on just these. To see the rest of their range, check out Kmart Online. This is the Australian website, but after checking it out I can see that the stock and prices are very similar.
These lunch boxes are extremely affordable, however there is a reason for these – none of them have compartments that seal individually, and the quality of the lunch boxes isn’t as high as some of the more expensive ones out there in the market. They will serve their purpose, but I couldn’t guarantee that they would last. If you’re only spending $4 that’s not necessarily an issue though!

Snack Box with Elastic
Price: $3
Rating: 6/10
My Thoughts:
This is a cute small snack box perfect if you just want to take a small amount of food. There is an elastic band that holds the top and bottom of the container together. Because the base is smaller than the lid, you can fit more in the container than you initially think – the elastic band will hold it together. Just bear in mind that the tighter the elastic gets, the harder it could be for little hands to get off. It is NOT leak proof at all, so do not even think about putting juicy foods or any type of liquid in it.
Durability:
It appears fairly durable, because it is small – but if stood on I would imagine it would crack.
Cleaning:
Very easy to clean the container. The elastic may be an issue if it gets quite dirty though.
The Apple / Yoghurt Test:
Does not fit a whole apple or a pottle of yoghurt.
Can my 3 year old open it? YES
Can my 5 year old open it? YES

3 Section Lunch Box
Price: $4
Rating: 6/10
My Thoughts:
A nice sized container with three compartments. Doesn’t hold a huge amount of food, but would be enough for a sandwich and a few snacks. The compartments do not seal individually.
Durability:
It appears fairly durable, because it is small – but if stood on I would imagine it would crack.
Cleaning:
With only two pieces to this lunch box, this is relatively easy to clean.
The Apple / Yoghurt Test:
Does not fit a whole apple or a pottle of yoghurt.

2 Compartment Lunch Box with Cutlery
Price: $9
Rating: 5/10
My Thoughts:
I gave this a 5 out of 10 because I felt it really isn’t for kids. The two separate containers have lids that are far too easy to remove – and I would imagine putting the containers together AND putting the elastic around, would be quite difficult. The size inside isn’t bad, but in my personal opinion, it would probably suit either an older child, or an adult. The cutlery would also get lost by a young child, so might as well not even give it to them.
Durability:
It appears fairly durable, but if stood on I would imagine it would crack.
Cleaning:
There are a few parts to this, which makes it a wee bit annoying to clean. The elastic, if dirty, could also present a problem.
The Apple / Yoghurt Test:
Does not fit a whole apple or a pottle of yoghurt.

5 Section Container
Price: $5
Rating: 6/10
My Thoughts:
A really nice sized lunch box that has a spoon and an extra container (which fits inside the lunch box). My only issue with this lunch box is the gap between the lunch box and the lid is huge – so any food would definitely move around unless you were sure your child could keep the lunch box flat.
Durability:
It appears fairly durable, because it is small – but if stood on I would imagine it would crack.
Cleaning:
This is relatively easy to clean.
The Apple / Yoghurt Test:
YES – it does fit a whole apple and a pottle of yoghurt.

Square Lunch Container with Tray
Price: $5
Rating: 6/10
My Thoughts:
Another lunch box that looks great, and is a decent size; but is possibly for an older child. The lid is a little fiddly, as is the tray inside. You can easily fit a couple of sandwiches in the bottom compartment with snacks in the top.
Durability:
It appears fairly durable, because it is small – but if stood on I would imagine it would crack.
Cleaning:
This is relatively easy to clean.
The Apple / Yoghurt Test:
Does not fit a whole apple or a pottle of yoghurt.
Can my 3 year old open it? YES

7 Piece Lunch Kit
Price: $10
Rating: 8/10
My Thoughts:
This is my favourite of the range reviewed from Kmart. It contains an insulated bag, two containers, a water bottle, two pouches and an ice puck. The containers are a good size for a sandwich and some snacks – plus the lid can’t be removed. It’s hinged. The overall size of the insulated bag is enough that you could add more food than the containers could hold.
Durability:
It appears fairly durable, because it is small – but if stood on I would imagine it would crack. The insulated bag would add extra protection.
Cleaning:
This is relatively easy to clean, although a lot of pieces individually.
The Apple / Yoghurt Test:
Does not fit a whole apple or a pottle of yoghurt in the containers – but it would within the insulated bag.
Can my 3 year old open it? YES
Can my 5 year old open it? YES
