Ever wanted to give your kid a knife and NOT worry about them stabbing themselves? Or not worry that they’ll cut a limb off. Well guess what? Some geniuses out there invented a freakin knife called a KiddiKutter and it actually works. LIKE FOR REALS.
The KiddiKutter (from August Boutique) is designed for children 3 years & older to cut their own food SAFELY. This knife will cut anything that a sharp knife can but it won’t cut kids fingers due to the rounded serrations of the stainless steel blade.
THE EXPERIENCE
The first thing I did when I opened the package, was run the knife along my hand to check it’s sharpness. I can guarantee this is not sharp at all.
I then set my 3 year old up with a breadboard, a piece of bread and the knife.
I just let her do what she though she was supposed to do, and it took her a few minutes to figure it out but she got there. The hardest thing is figuring out how to hold the knife while cutting, and where to put your other hand.
As an adult, we all know how to do this and forget the kids have no idea. So I did have to show her a few times, and she did get a bit over it. So we tried again later in the day and that’s when I took the photo.
As long as you give your child the space and time to figure it out, they’ll get it. And the neat thing about the knife is that you don’t have to push THAT hard to see a result.
A friend of mine has also tried the KiddiKutter and she said it was brilliant for cutting vegetables too. She got her 4 year old daughter to cut some carrots, and it worked perfectly.
MY THOUGHTS
I would recommend this in a heart beat as it not only teaches the child how to hold a knife, how to cut with a knife, but it does so in a safe manner allowing them to still experience “cutting”.
THE DEAL
The KiddiKutter comes in a variety of funky colours and is $18.

Is the caption under the picture supposed to read “Cuts food, not fingers”?
Nope, “cuts food, not bitches” is my tag line for it 🙂
Advertising that works. I like it! 🙂
